How hibernate uses JDBC internally or it uses its own Method

Hi

I just want to know how hibernate able to connect to database without using JDBC. Because which ever the Database we use,we have to use JDBC to connect to that database but in hibernate we wont put any jdbc code. so please can any one explain what is the underlying technology hibernate uses to perform all the jdbc task.

we dont put jdbc code because hibernate does it for us,if u like the internals u can read the Hibernate code it is open source
