Hello,

I have a bit of a problem here with JPA, more specifically with the "persistence.xml" configuration file.

As I understand, each and every PersistenceUnit has to be declared in the "persistence.xml" file.
What I want is to declare 2 different Persistence units: one for production environment using a specific database and another one for testing purposes only (for this one, I'd use an in-memory Hypersonic DB).

What I would like is to have my unitTest-only-PersistenceUnit to be accessible directly in unittests (=> not in a JBoss managed environment) but I certainly DON'T want to have it even seen when deployed under JBoss.

In order to do so, my first idea would be to:
1: Declare my "production" PersistenceUnits in a file called "persistence.xml". This file would be automatically found by my application server.
2: Declare my test PersistenceUnit in another file (let's say persistence-test.xml". This file would not be seen by my appServer but could be specified manually in my J2SE unittest code (like this, for example: Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory(PERSISTENCE_XML_CONFIG_FILE_NAME, PERSISTENCE_UNIT_NAME)

Problem is that I have to specify all the PersistenceUnits in the same single "persistence.xml" file... I can't just create 2 different persistence config files

Wouldn't it be easier for everybody if it was possible to give the name of a file playing the role of the "persistence.xml" file without forcibly being this file? That would help me a lot for my unit tests...

Don't know if that is clear enough. Anyway, thank you in advance for your responses.

Hello,
configuration look fine but the way you are building the query string is not; you defined the
default field as "businessId", then you force only the first part of name to be contained in the city name, so "New" gets associated to the cityName field, but "York" to the businessId.

look at http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/search/reference/en/html_single/#d0e273 for some examples.

I assume that posts are not mapped on Blog ? If they are mapped on blog, you can do it with a simple criteria. If not you can try this:

DetachedCriteria dc = DetachedCriteria.For(typeof(Post), "p")
   .Add(Expression.PropertyEq("p.PostId", "b.PostId")
   .Add(Expression.Eq("IsLive", 1)
   .SetProjection(Projections.Property("p.Id");

IList<Blog> blogs = session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Blog), "b")
   .Add(Subqueries.Exists(dc))

Hi,

I'm need to using Hibernate Search and I wondering why my search fail when I provide a keyword greater than 2.

For example:

This works: "New"
or "York" (each separate)

This does not work: "New York"

Here's my code:

ADDRESS BEAN
@Entity
@Table(name = "Address")
@Indexed(index="indexes/addresses")
@Analyzer(impl = test.EnglishAnalyzer.class)
public abstract class AbstractAddressCbo  implements java.io.Serializable {
      @Column(name = "CITY_NAME")
@Field(index=Index.TOKENIZED)
     private String cityName;

We need the search to find a match for more than one word. Example: "New York" Is there something wrong with my configuration?

I thought you could just set the mapping to generator class="native"
Which will use the native/default generator strategy for the dialect that you're using... which will be IDENTITY for SqlServer and SEQUENCE for Oracle (the latter I'm guessing will be the case)

eg
<id name="id"> <generator class="native"/> </id>

Subject: Problem using Hibernate Tools 3.2 in BEA Weblogic 10.0
I have a BEA Weblogic 10.0 IDE which has Eclipse 3.2.1 in it.

I wanted to use the Hibernate Tools 3.2 into the IDE.I have trouble in doing it.

These are the Steps I followed :
1) Unzipped the Hibernate Tools 3.2 package.
2) Then placed the plugins and features contents in the below path
bea\workSpaceStudio_1.1\workSpaceStudio\eclipse\plugins
bea\workSpaceStudio_1.1\workSpaceStudio\eclipse\features.
3) I restarted my eclipse and cleaned the workspace also.
4) Then i created a JAVA project.
5) Then i created a hibernate.cfg.xml file for my database.
6) Then i used the Run -> Hibernate Code Generation option and then selected Open Code generation Dialog Box.
7) And as soon as i try to create configuration . My weblogic hangs and there i a exception soon in problems

The exception is

eclipse.buildId=M20070212-1330

OK, I haven't removed the @Target annotation yet, cos thats a lot of work... but I created a standard hibernate session within the EJB, so know I run the same query via the app server managed EntityManager and via a hibernate session created from a standalone hiberbate.cfg.xml....

EntityManager query time = 26.6 seconds
Hibernate session query time = 12.3 seconds

So, they are both slower than the same code run in JSE, and the EntityManager is still considerably slower than a standard hibernate session.

Still more investigation needed

This link provides some information on hibernate and batch: http://www.hibernate.org/hib_docs/reference/en/html/batch.html

One thing to keep in mind is that with batch processing, ORM's as the persistence mechanism tend to not perform well. Finely tuned SQL is incredibly important for performance, which is why you tend to see JDBC, SQLJ, etc used. With ORM's, the SQL may not be as streamlined as possible because of extra column selects, simple SQL versus finely tuned SQL, etc. The following article goes into some discussions on high performance batch and covers some reasons why ORM technologies are not necessarily a good choice: http://java.sys-con.com/read/415321.htm

In terms of using a product like Datastage, it really depends on your requirements. If you're looking for traditional batch qualities of service like checkpoint and restart, or concurrent execution with OLTP workloads, then Datastage perhaps isn't the best choice. Datastage should be used for staging data , pre/post processing data through ETL interactions, etc. On the other hand, if you're processing lots of isolated data - data where you have exclusive access and therefore fewer qualities of service like checkpointing/restart/OLTP-interleave/etc, Datastage might be the best choice.

Not to plug the technology I work a lot with, but what I've seen work well is WebSphere XD Compute Grid with a well designed data access layer, where we can leverage both ORM technologies (Hibernate/OpenJPA) and highly optimized SQL via SQLJ/etc. In this model, ORM technologies are used for some of the batch interactions, but for those that have very demanding performance requirements, we use SQLJ DAO's instead. In this model you get the checkpoint/restart and OLTP interleave provided by Compute Grid, along with the flexibility of using a simple persistence mechanism like Hibernate when you can, and deal with complex SQL queries when you must. A few customers are starting to use Pure Query technology from DB2 also, the benefit being the ability to quickly choose static or dynamic SQL queries via properties as opposed to the traditional method of compiling and binding the SQL, etc.
I have a program that is used in commercial environments. NHibernate has been extremely useful for any number of reasons, but some things are still a manual process, which I'm trying to change.

One of them is when we update the product and the DB changes structure. I would like to have the SQL scripts run from within NHibernate. Now, I'm trying to use the session.CreateSQLQuery command, but it is proving difficult. I can make it work, but in ways that I'm not happy with.

Surely there is a way to simply run an SQL command through NHibernate? I don't expect it to understand the DB behind it or do anything else tricky, I just want it to run the SQL and that's that.

I have scoured the forum, the internet and in a fit of manic passion started asking random people on the street. No luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In a many-to-one relationship, let say the entities are User and Organization where one organization may have thousands of users and user may not have an organization.

In the User.hbm.xml, I set fetch="join" in the <many-to-one /> tag. The SQL generated for fetching the User uses LEFT OUTER JOIN. However, If I perform a query on User with a sorting option on one of the field in Organization (say organization.name), the SQL generated becomes INNER JOIN.

As a result, I would get a wrong result set since user may not have an organization. Those records will be losen by INNER JOIN.

Thanks for advance.
